A Thank You

"I have just managed to roll out of bed every bone aching in my body as well as 2 badly bruised fingers, a bruised wrist and forearm. I think it is time to gracefully retire!!
On the bright side I was so very lucky to have such a talented team of juniors mixed with 3, if not talented, experienced committee members who once again for the third year in succession won the match and retained the Grass Concrete Trophy.
My team were: Chris Colley, Jonathan Smith, Matthew Wardell, Jamie Huby, James Taylor, Michael Widdison, Nicky Lyons, Johnny Haslam, Ron and Colin.
Thanks also go to our sporting opponents ably lead by James Rowett, Paul Clark, Alan Grogan, Stuart Harrison, Andy Colley, Paul Ellis, Paul Barker, Gareth Bottomley, Duncan Hawkins,Gary Newton and Paul Scott.
The late arrival of Jim Taylor was due to his studying the MCC Laws; and confirmed in his faultless umpiring performance. Scoring was under the control of Shaun Widdison and Gawthorpe members helped both scoring and umpiring duties.
Gawthorpe St Mary's had worked extremely hard preparing the field, pitch and facilities for the match and must be congratulated for the fantastic efforts that helped make the game a resounding success and let everyone see the incredible number of promising young players in our League.
At the end of the Select X1 innings of 199 we went into a Tea Room set for all players and officials and treated to a delicious mouth watering meat salad. Everyone thanked the ladies who had prepared and served this wonderful tea.
The main result is that for the 5th year we have held a charity match and with the support of clubs, players and friends we hope to have raised more than £6000 for Cancer Research in five years.
Every club has been asked to have a collection and send this to Ron Mackenzie by 18th August. Please give this priority and make this the best year yet!!!
It would be impossible to single out any individual but I would like to send my personal thanks to EVERYONE who helped in any way towards the charity day at Gawthorpe yesterday.
